Get Outside This Fall In the Black Hills

Welcome to Safe Outdoor Adventure!

The COVID-19 crisis has changed life for all of us. But if you're ready to travel, South Dakota's Black Hills has exactly what you're looking for this fall: wide open spaces, plenty of natural wonder, and fun things to do in the safety of the great outdoors. Here are some things you can do nearby the Blackstone Lodge & Suites in the Northern Black Hills:

Hiking

There are dozens of hikes throughout the northern part of the Black Hills, especially in nearby Spearfish Canyon. Fall colors are spectacular in the forest, making it a popular destination for day-hikers. And if you decide to trek down to Deadwood, you can use our complimentary shuttle for a free ride back to the hotel! For trail maps and more hiking ideas, head over to the Black Hills National Forest's website.

Cycling

There are fantastic trails throughout the area for bicyclists, but the most popular is the 109-mile-long Mickelson Trail. A rails-to-trails project, the grades aren't steep and the scenery is incredible: cyclists will pass through four hard rock tunnels and rider over more than 100 historic railroad bridges as they meander through the national forest. For more details, visit the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks website.

ATVing

Off-roading in ATVs and UTVs is one of the most popular activities in the Black Hills, which has more than 3,600 miles of roads and motorized trails. Never been on an ATV? There are several outfitters and tour guides who can help you design the perfect adventure. For a list of them, check out Black Hills Central Reservations.
